After visiting with a reptile vet, Kevin L. Sanders, DVM, I made a few finishing touches to Fluffy's home. Here are some pictures. He seems to really enjoy it!!! That is good to see. He is good! He is eating again and he is active once again.
The vet did not have a lot to tell me because this was his first encounter with a frilled dragon. What he did say is that Fluffy is about two months old and is under weight. The vet also said that humidity should be at 50 to 60%, and should never get over 75%.
I also emailed a zoo in Australia to see if they would be kind enough to share any information that would be helpful in regards to housing a frilled dragon. I hope to hear something from them soon. I'm also going to try to call the San Diego Zoo, along with the Bronx Zoo to see if they can help me.
Here are some pics of Fluffy's new habitat:
Nice, but :
ReplyDelete4'H x 3'L x 2'D minimum dimensions for an adult Frilled Dragon.
ie :
915 x 610 x 1216mm = 36 x 24 x 47.9 inches
(L x D x H)
Also, do not use sand as substrate (impaction) try orchid bark or similar as it holds humidity.
ReplyDeleteNever keep a Frilled Dragon in a glass aquarium- it does not hold in heat and F D's do not feel secure with glass on all sides. Don't use a humidifier with F.D's, spray instead as a humidifier's droplets are so fine it causes Upper Respiratory Infections. (not saying you do, just advice for anyone reading your blog)
Apologies. just watched your slideshow and you obviously keep him in a much larger viv.
ReplyDeleteStill- keep my comments for others to share. Great viv and F D.
